I've always had similar thoughts about the ambiguity of loyalty... In most cases I find it more laudable to be loyal to a cause, an ideal, a value, than being blindly loyal to a human group (a political party, a determined church...). Being unconditionally loyal to a group of people often implies being unloyal to our principles, betraying ourselves.
